Dear Pioneer Hockey Alumni,

Greetings and best wishes for a prosperous and healthy 2009! Several DU Hockey Alums from the 60’s 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 2000 eras have been meeting (at the Campus lounge!) since last summer, in anticipation of the 60th Anniversary of DU Hockey, which will be celebrated in Denver October 9-11, 2009. You and your families and DU hockey friends are cordially invited. In fact… it just won’t be the same without you! Regardless of whether you are a season ticket holder, or haven’t been back to campus since graduating (or attempted to graduate!) this is our weekend to celebrate DU Hockey with our friends and teammates.

We have created an agenda for the weekend that isn’t too busy. It includes time to spend with friends, to play golf, (weather permitting) tour campus, or just wander down memory lane. The headquarters hotel for the 60th Anniversary Reunion is the Denver Southeast Embassy Suites (www.denversoutheast.embassysuites.com).

Some of the exciting changes on campus are… the exciting changes on campus! Over $400 million in new facilities in the last 15 years! The new buildings and landscaping are heralded as the best new architecture in Denver. We will have a campus tour on our list of options, if you want to check out what’s new on campus.

We also anticipate an unforgettable shoot-out for the Orange and the Lemon! We will square off by generation/decade with some great prizes for the winners. Want to scrimmage? We will if the interest is there! A complete agenda for the weekend is attached along with a registration form with all of the options.

We are in the process of creating a retro style DU Hockey Jersey that you will be able to order along with a golf shirt and baseball cap to commemorate the 60thAnniversary. The jerseys will have a special 60th Anniversary logo and will be the same design that the varsity team will wear that weekend and for other games in 2009-10. The retro jerseys, the 60th Anniversary golf shirts, hats and other keepsakes items will be made available to you for sale before the reunion. After the reunion they will be for sale to the public for the entire year at DU. The jerseys can be customized to include your name and number, or your graduation year if you prefer. If you order in advance, you will be able to wear your jersey to the 60th Reunion Celebration, for the on-ice introductions of the players at Saturday’s Varsity game (DU verses Vermont). We have approached the University about our event plans and they are eager to participate. However, we have made it clear from the outset that this is a celebration of friends, of hockey, of winning, and not some trumped up excuse for a fundraiser. The Athletic Department Executives understand this and they have endorsed our terms and concepts whole heartedly. They have graciously opened their facilities to us for the weekend, and are hosting some of the 60th Anniversary Celebrations.

We would love to have you attend! We have an early registration option available to make it easier on the budget. So mark your calendars, and make your plans, we can hardly wait to see you, meet you, and celebrate the proud heritage of 60 years of DU Hockey!
