  Dear Denver Hockey Alums,

As of April 3rd our Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of DU hockey continues to gain momentum! And we have a couple of important announcements to pass along.

#1) We have upgraded the hotel!

Embassy Suites Reservations Page for University of Denver Hockey Alumni 60th Anniversary Celebration
  • The Embassy Suites on Hampden Avenue (less than 5 miles from DU) has become available, and they have offered us several cost saving inducements such as complimentary shuttle service to/from DU on Saturday and they will host our reception on Friday evening (no cost to us!) as well. Every room at this Embassy Suites is a 2 room suite that includes a living room and a bedroom with king or 2 double beds. The rate is $99 (per night, double occupancy, plus tax) includes a complimentary cooked to order, full breakfast and complimentary evening beverages (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) each night. There are several ways to easily access the Embassy Suites Reservation System.
  • Go to the Denver Hockey Alumni Association web site at www.dhaa.org and click open the Embassy Suites reservation link and it will take you to their reservation site.
  • Call 1 (800) Embassy and ask for the Embassy Suites Denver Southeast and ask for the "DU Hockey 60th Anniversary Celebration" rate of $99.
  • Click here on Embassy Suites Denver Southeast to go to the specialized reservations page for the reunion that Embassy Suites has made for this special event.
  • Please make your reservations as soon as possible. The hotel has a specific number of rooms dedicated to our group and they have other weekend business that will insure a sellout. Don’t be shut out of the fun and end up on somebody’s couch. Ugh! You can always cancel should an emergency arise.

#2) Early Registration Discount Extended

It has been brought to our attention that several of you either didn’t receive or didn’t open our last communication because they didn’t recognize the title. Therefore many have asked for an extension of the offer for the 17% discount on registration fees. We have had enough registrations to keep our vendors and purveyors in the saddle for another month. But after May 1st we will have obligations due that we will not be able to postpone again. So please take advantage of this offer.

Go to www.dhaa.org and click on the registration form link. Print it out, fill it in, write a check ($USD please) and send it to the address on the form (Tom Sampson). Your registration must be received by May 1st, 2009 to take advantage of this special offer. You are special so please do this!

Alumni News Bits

  • Jon Art, class of ’62 and a leader on and off the ice, knows a good thing when he sees it! He was the first to register. So has George (Curly) Kirkwood ‘62.
  • Mark Rycroft, class of 2001 and former Colorado Avalanche, has registered and has gotten his former teammates Hobie Baker Award Winner,
  • Matt Carle who is currently playing with the Philadelphia Flyers and Paul Stasney of the Colorado Avalanche to register as well.
  • Gerry Powers class of ’69 and 2 time NCAA Champ is communicating with all of his teammates and says the 67-69 Pioneers will have more members of their team at the celebration than any other team. The gauntlet has been laid down!
  • Ed Zimmeru, Captain of the 1st DU NCAA Championship team back in 1958, has committed as have several of his teammates.
  • Rod Summers, Class of 1990, is working the phones and e-mail to get the Backstrom era to turn out.
  • Angelo Ricci and Mark Luger says the Serratore era will be well represented. Mark Luger and Donald Mc Lennan have already registered.
  • Marshall Johnston was in town in February and stopped by the Magnus Arena to do a video promotion that was aired at the last few DU games of the season as well as on local TV.
  • Many, many Denver area fans are coming out of the wood work and have asked to attend/participate in the celebration although we haven’t even opened registration to them yet. We have even received unsolicited donations from fans saying how much Denver Hockey has meant to them and the community over the years.

If you know of someone interested in attending, who doesn’t use e-mail please contact:

Tom Sampson trsampson@hotmail.com (970) 219-3016
Rod Summers rsummers@qwest.net (303) 669-2909

Please send us any video or film you may have from your era. We will have the Archives dept. at DU digitize it and return it. Send it to Tom Sampson at 2903 Waterstone Court Ft. Collins, CO 80525. And please bring any clippings, scrapbooks or article you may have of your DU hockey experience when you come to the celebration in October. We will digitize and return them as well.

It’s going to be fun, well attended and memorable. It just won’t be the same without you! Register today!
